Cruise Ships with Luxury Spas

One thing I take a long hard look at when I’m choosing a cruise line for a vacation is the quality of the spa on the Cruise Ship. I look at what features and amenities the spas offer and over all what spa will fit me best and make me the most comfortable.

If you take my approach and really look over a spa before you choose your cruise line, keep in mind that even with an “All Inclusive” package, often the spas are not included and cost extra, so you should find out if any packages include spa treatments when you are trying to book your trip.

Here is a short list of the top Cruise Line Spas, the treatments they offer and other details you should know about each spa. You can click on any image for a larger version. All photo’s are provided by the cruise lines.

Carnival Cruise Lines– The Carnival Spas feature a health club with state-of-the-art exercise equipment, a jogging track, and aerobics classes. They also feature a European-style spa and salon with a steam room and sauna. Some of the services offered include a variety of beauty treatments; specialized for men and women, including facials, acupuncture, massages, tooth whitening, detox wraps and slimming treatments, manicures, pedicures and hairstyling.  The new Carnival Splendor cruise ship, however, has a Cloud 9 SpaOne, which is one of the largest spas afloat with its 40,000 square foot, two-deck spa.

The massive spa has mud treatment, flotation therapy, VIP suites, plenty of treatment rooms, a large relaxation room, a salon, thermal suite, aroma steam bath, oriental steam bath, laconium, thalasso pool, saunas and more. Carnival also just began offering advanced booking for their spas, as of February 2009, so now you can book your spa treatments before you even get on the boat. The Cruise Line also offers spa cabins for those that want to lounge in spa-like luxury in their own room. If you are looking for the ultimate spa experience on your cruise, then you might be surprised to find that Carnival’s Splendor cruise ship might be your top pick!

Some of the spa options for your cruise include: Signature Treatments, Brows and Lashes, Facial Treatments, Massage Therapies, Detox Wraps & Body Therapies, Acupuncture, Medi-Spa Cosmetic Services, Tooth Whitening, Men’s Services, YSpa Services for Teens and more. The AquaSpa is known as one of the most luxurious spas at sea with high end treatments, spa cuisine and a fitness center.

The new Celebrity Equinox Cruise Ship is the upper echelon of their fleet, with a spa that offers a 24 karat facial. The Celebrity Equinox’s AquaSpa has a Persian Garden aromatherapy steam room, featuring heated ceramic loungers, and the Relaxation Room, which offers stunning vistas from comfortable loungers and a peaceful ambiance. Even the in-stateroom amenities are quite spa-like, boasting a menu for your pillow selection, featuring Swedish Isotonic, body and hypo-allergenic pillows. The rooms also have carafes of unsweetened iced tea; soothing, calming lavender oil in a reed diffuser; and a five-jet shower by Hansgrohe. This cruise ship also has AquaClass spa cabins which are more spa-like with added spa amenities. If luxury is what you seek then you may want to visit this cruise line for your next vacation.

CUNARD Cruise Lines– CUNARD might not ring an immediate bell as a cruise line, but their ships the Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and the Queen Elizabeth (to be released in the fall of 2010) should be recognizable, since these ships are some of the most famous cruise ships in the world. The spas for these cruise ships are run by one of our favorite spas, Canyon Ranch (previous blog posts about Canyon Ranch).

On the Queen Mary 2 you will be able to choose from over 80 award-winning treatments and services designed for men, women and couples, including: Healthy Skin, Body Treatments, Thermal Therapies, Tanning Treatments, Massage & Body Work, Treatments from the East, Healing Energy, Acupuncture, Ayurveda, Chiropractic, Health & Wellness Services. Canyon Ranch Spas are always a good time, even if you’re just relaxing in the spectacular waterfall pool.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises – On this cruise line you will be relaxing in the lap of luxury whether you’re in your room or at the Seven Seas Mariner Spa. This cruise line used to have an exclusive agreement with Carita, who ran all of the Regent’s spas, but we have just found out that starting with the 2009 holiday sailings, a Canyon Ranch SpaClub with be on all Regent ships. Here are some pictures of what the spas used to look like under Carita, but we are assuming that a redesign of these spas will be done with Canyon Ranch. Regardless of whether it’s Carita or Canyon Ranch, both spas are excellent, and Regent is still one of the top rated cruise lines in the world.
