Common Treatments for your Ailments- Inspired by the Spa!

We all have them from time to time; common, annoying discomforts and ailments that can cause us pain or just make us feel icky. Here is a list of some common things that we suffer with and some simple treatments that you can try next time you are afflicted with one of the following, all which have been inspired by the spa! (Keep in mind that this is not to be taken as medical advice, and is meant to be read for entertainment value only.)

1. Jet Lag | Treatment: Tanning – It has been fairly well documented that one of the only treatments for a bad case of jet lag is to get out in the sun in your new time zone. Many suggest taking part in some type of exercise activity such as walking or running, between the hours of 11:30 am and 2:00 pm on your first day at your new destination, but if you can’t exert yourself, try laying out in the sun. You may also want to try hitting the tanning bed if getting the real thing is not an option.

2. Back Pain | Treatment: Massage – This treatment may seem like a no-brainer, but it’s actually surprising how many people suffer with back pain from time to time and don’t partake in a deep tissue massage or other back massage treatment. Next time you feel back pain then maybe this will remind you to take time out of your busy day to alleviate your discomfort by hitting the nearest massage parlor. Who knows, your future self might thank you as this could help future back pain discomforts.

3. Joint Soreness | Treatment: Herbal Rubs – There are a number of herbal mixes that you can try next time you have sore joints. Joint aches and pains can be just that, so next time maybe you should try one of the following holistic solutions: Spread warm mustard oil over an Indian Madar leaf then apply the leaf to the joint letting it sit for a few hours; rub warm apple cider vinegar or white vinegar on your aching joints; Mix camphor, methyl salicylate, eucalyptus oil and menthol to make a rubbing mixture to be applied to your sore joints or alternate hot and cold compresses on the painful areas can give you some respite.

4. Hangovers | Treatment: Steam Shower This treatment has been contested on both sides of the debate, but next time you can’t hold your head up because you’ve got such a bad hangover, taking a nice long steam and drinking plenty of water might just work for you. We cannot stress enough to make sure to drink plenty of water, as a simple hangover can quickly turn into a life threatening situation if you decide to take a steam to alleviate a hangover without replenishing the body’s water.

5. Cracked Skin | Salt Bath Soak – I bet you thought you’d never hear the day when someone told you to go take a soak to help with a common ailment such as dry and cracked skin! Well the day has come, so let’s get to it. All you have to do is draw a nice, warm bath, then add six pounds of rock salt or table salt and let it dissolve thoroughly in the bath. Soak for at least 20 minutes (but don’t limit yourself if you’re enjoying your soak!) and then once you are done blot yourself dry and finish yourself off with a nice almond or olive oil massage oil. Repeat this process daily, that’s right we said DAILY, for best results.
