The Hue in You

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Color is part of everything we do. It determines what clothes we pair together, how we prepare food (think rare vs. medium well) – even whether or not we stop our cars at an intersection! We have an emotional relationship with color, and the hue of things often determines how we feel about them – even subconsciously.

Chromatherapy – the science of healing through color – harnesses our incredible connection with the spectrum of shades, and helps us to achieve optimum health and relaxation through the most basic of all mediums: light. And when the world of chromatherapy meets the world of spa, the possibilities are endless. Imagine using color to relax your mind, the same way that you use water, steam, and temperature to relax your body – all at the same time!

Just as we assign words to objects and names to people, we impart feelings and attitudes onto colors. From our earliest years, we acknowledge reds, oranges, and yellows as “hot” or “warm” shades, and associate them with stimulation or feelings of excitement. (Which must explain why red is so commonly used in food packaging – it’s a color that’s psychologically acknowledged to activate our appetites!) Conversely, blues, greens, and purples are “cool” shades, and are connected with feelings of tranquility, restoration, and an association with nature. Chromatherapy acknowledges these emotional attachments and uses them to our advantage. So if you’re feeling tired, lackluster, or creatively stunted, consider burning crimson candles next to your tub, hanging orange glass prisms from your bathroom window, and scattering gold-tinted gemstones on your vanity. Sounds simple, but that’s how easy it is to incorporate chromatherpy into your home spa routine.

Manufacturers have also taken notice of the increased interest in color-as-restoration, and have made color-based light systems readily accessible in home spa products. ThermaSol’s Serenity Light and Music System uses both chromatherapy and audio-therapy to stimulate your eyes and ears, while relaxing your body. A self-contained 10” module produces high-intensity light with an infinitely adjustable spectrum – ideal for home chromatherapy. This is the pinnacle of relaxation, and will surely take your home spa experience to a whole new level.

Using Chakras & Chromatherapy to Heal

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Using Chromatherapy or “Color Therapy” in your home or at the spa can be one alternative form of medicine that may just help you ease pain and heal your body. Hippocrates was an ancient Greek physician of and is considered one of the most prolific figure in the history of medicine. Otherwise known as the “Father of Western Medicine”, Hippocrates was well aware of color’s holistic powers which is why he painted his treatment rooms in healing and used different colored ointments. The ancient Indian art of the chakras uses color therapy to heal by targeting the problem area with the appropriate therapy according to the chakra.

These days through the use of bathtubs, showers and steam showers one can produce these multi-color experiences, focusing on specific colors to help heal or relieve pain for a specific area on the body. By using different color spectrums on specified body parts, chromatherapy – dictated by the chakras – uses the bathing experience to help heal.

To integrate color into your bathing experience, the Serenity Light and Music System is one of the best lighting systems on the market, as it can produce a full color spectrum and features that even change colors to adjust to one’s mood. The technological components are mounted behind a solid brass ceiling grill. The system can come with a remote control for the ultimate in comfort and convenience during your steam bath experience as well.

Here is one chart that may help you target the location on your body or the system that you are hoping to heal:

Color Chakra Location Function System
Red First Base of the spine Stimulation Circulatory system
Orange Second Pelvis Energy levels Lungs
Yellow Third Solar plexus Purification Blood
Green Fourth Heart Soothing Heart
Blue Fifth Throat Illness and pain Throat
Indigo Sixth Forehead Mental wellness Skin
Violet Seventh Top of the head Relaxation Head

Three Holistic Healing Methods

Circle of RelaxationThe bathing experience can be brought full circle with the addition of an innovative steam shower to your master bath or home spa. With this technology, you will be able to experience the ultimate in relaxation by enjoying all three Holistic Therapies during one session. Hydrotherapy immediately relaxes you through the power of steam, while chromatherapy evokes your ideal mood and aromatherapy invigorates the senses. The combination of these natural holistic remedies refresh your mind and body and provide you with a daily measure of tranquility. Chromatherapy features can be found with ThermaSol’s Deluxe or Premium Control steam shower packages. These systems put seven chakras of chromatherapy at your finger tips.

Hydrotherapy: For centuries, people have resorted to the restorative power of water to soothe pain and remedy illness. Hydrotherapy is the use of steam and vapor to promote ultimate relaxation. Conventional uses of hydrotherapy help to stimulate circulation, tone body tissues, alleviate pain, relax nerves and enhance overall well being.

Chromatherapy: Delight in the power of color. This alternative healing method uses color and light to balance energy wherever the body is lacking. The underlying principle is that certain colors, or the absence of color can affect your body and mood. Therefore, implement colors that evoke the specific emotions you would like to conjure. Soothing blue, meditative violet and harmonious green are the perfect complement to your bathing session.

Aromatherapy: Let nature calm your body and mind. Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils which are sourced from aromatic plants and flowers that stimulate the sense of smell and are absorbed through the skin. Rejuvenating scents are believed to improve mood and promote wellness.

Employ all three therapies for the ultimate in relaxation!

Canyon Ranch SpaClub

Of all the cities in the world – none of them need a great spa like Las Vegas. After all it is hard work playing at the tables until the wee hours of the morning, dancing in the nightclubs and walking for what seems like miles in the over air conditioned casinos, or even worse walking in the desert heat of the strip. So for those that are looking for a little R&R away from the flashy Vegas lifestyle, the Canyon Ranch SpaClub in The Venetian and The Palazzo is where you will find it.

When I visited this spa a few weeks ago with a couple of friends I was surprised to have a fantastic experience without even getting a treatment. We enjoyed the large steam room with chromatherapy lighting, before hitting the unique array of aqua thermal tubs. Best of all when you exit the thermal tubs there are heated stone chaise lounges to relax on. In addition, we enjoyed the experimental cabins such as the IGLOO which combines hot and cold water treatments for a rejuvenating effect. For those that like dry heat, their large sauna is enclosed in glass so that you don’t feel closed in. The day pass costs $40 and one can easily spend up to four hours relaxing, soaking and sipping cucumber-infused water. Plus, they have a spa restaurant serving up healthy, organic cuisine, which also provides a nice break from the all-you-can-eat buffet.

ILLUMINATE THE SPA  EXPERIENCECHROMATHERAPY
According to the ancient Indian art of the chakras, color therapy has the potential to heal. These days, bathtub, shower and steam shower manufacturers are inspired by this age-old practice to create a multi-color experience focusing in on specific colors to achieve relaxing effects. By using different color spectrum’s on specified body parts, chromatherapy – dictated by the chakras – takes the bathing experience full circle.

To integrate color into the steam experience, systems can be purchased which offer a full color spectrum and features that even change colors to adjust to one’s mood. The technological components are mounted behind a solid brass ceiling grill. Look for systems with a remote control for the ultimate in comfort and convenience.
